"Really happy with the Ather OBD Reader. The product is simple, works well, and the instructions are very clear and easy to follow.

Sam was extremely kind and helpful throughout the purchase. I had some shipping issues with my address, but he patiently understood the problem and resolved it quickly. The packaging was also excellent.

Highly recommended for Ather owners, and definitely worth supporting the developer!"

Check Your Ather's Real Battery Health at Home

The Ather app shows your charge and range, but not the number owners actually want: the battery's real State of Health (SOH). Service centres can read it over the scooter's CAN bus, but most owners are never shown the percentage. A-OBD changes that — this tiny plug & play OBD scanner connects to your scooter's diagnostic port and shows your true battery health in minutes, without a service centre visit.

It goes beyond a single SOH number. A-OBD reads every cell in the pack — per-cell voltage, charge and temperatures — so you can spot cell imbalance early, the warning sign that shows up as uneven range drop long before a full failure. You also get charger input/output, motor temperature, odometer, drive modes and 40+ more live values, plus live charting and offline logging on the WROOM version.

Why does it matter? Ather's battery warranty guarantees the pack stays at or above 70% SOH during the cover period — knowing your real number helps you act early, back up a warranty claim, or value your scooter fairly on resale. It's 100% plug & play (no wires to cut), fully open source, and built by the community for Ather owners.

Every Ather model is supported. Whether you ride an Ather 450X, Ather 450S, Ather 450 Plus, Ather 450 Apex or an Ather Rizta Z, Rizta S or Rizta X — with the 2.9 kWh or the 3.7 kWh battery — the process is the same. Checking an Ather 450X battery health at home, verifying a Rizta SOH before buying second-hand, or hunting down a cell imbalance on a 450S all take three steps: plug in, connect, read.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely not. A-OBD is a purely passive reader — it only listens to incoming CAN data and never transmits commands or changes anything. You don't splice or cut any wires, so it works exactly like a standard OBD-II car scanner and will not void your warranty.

Yes. Even if you plug the wires into the wrong pins on the Ather connector, the device only reads passive data and will not harm the scooter.

No. The project is fully open source — you're free to read the code and compile/verify it yourself on GitHub.

The ESP32-C3 is great for quick checks — all you need is 2–3 minutes, and it can stay connected for up to 30–40 minutes if needed. The ESP32/WROOM stays cool and can be left connected longer, so it's the better choice for extended sessions.

No. Once flashed, any phone, tablet or power bank can power it — just connect to the A-OBD Wi-Fi and open 192.168.4.1.

Never. There is no telemetry or tracking — your scooter's data stays between your scooter and your phone.

Plug A-OBD into the diagnostic port in your scooter's boot, connect your phone to its Wi-Fi, and open the dashboard at 192.168.4.1 — your real battery SOH shows up in seconds.

Ather doesn't surface SOH in the app — service centres read it over the scooter's CAN bus. A-OBD reads that same CAN data directly and shows you the percentage yourself.

Over time, individual battery cells drift apart in voltage — that's cell imbalance, and it shows up as uneven range drop. A-OBD displays the voltage and charge of every cell; an imbalance above about 0.3 means it's worth visiting a service centre.

Ather notes that SOH readings are less reliable in the first 10,000 km. It's still useful as a baseline — record it once and track how it changes over the years.

Yes — Ather's battery warranty (Pro Pack / Battery Protect) guarantees 70% SOH or above during the cover period. Knowing your real number helps you act early and bring evidence to the service centre.

Sharp range drops, sudden charge percentage jumps and high cell imbalance are the usual warning signs — they often point to a weak cell group or BMS fault. A-OBD lets you see all of it yourself before assuming the whole pack is dead.

All of them: Ather 450X, 450S, 450 Plus and 450 Apex, plus the Rizta Z, Rizta S and Rizta X — including both the 2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh battery variants. The OBD port and CAN data are the same across the range.
